Grooming & Coercive Control Summit 2023

In November 2023, we hosted five days of free webinars, guest blogs and curated resources for our first ever summit event.
This was the first of what we hope will be many events that bring together experts and lived experience around a particular topic, to share research and insights in a programme of free webinars, resources and specially commissioned blogs.
The topic for this inaugural summit was Grooming and Coercive Control. The topic was chosen because it receives relatively scant coverage, and we believe that challenging the stigma that surrounds it can help to accelerate positive change in a critical area.
Everyone was welcome to attend the summit. Together, we aimed to start conversations, collate knowledge, and share lived experiences of grooming and coercive control. Thank you to everyone who attended this event, as well as all our speakers, blog authors and other contributors.
2.4million
people aged 16+ experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2022.

This online summit was in response to experiences that people had shared with us, and questions people had asked.
We heard from professionals that they’re struggling to know how to adapt their services and support approaches to provide appropriate support to neurodivergent people, leaving them unsupported and often at increased risk. Many of these conversations have happened quietly, informally, and off the record. These are difficult topics to talk about.
Some of us have struggled to identify grooming and coercive or controlling behaviours in our own lives, and others have experienced barriers to getting support.
We want to support neurodivergent people to explore and understand their experiences, and we want to provide examples and solutions to professionals and services about what adjustments they can make to provide good support to us.
