Co-production
Whether you’re new to co-production and unsure where to start, or looking to develop and deepen your practices, we can apply our expertise to review, identify areas for improvement and support development of meaningful and sustainable co-production practices.
-
Co-production is an equal partnership between those who understand the needs of a community through their own lived experiences and those in roles who influence the direction of services that aim to support this community. It can be applied to the design process, decision making, delivery and evaluation of services.
-
There are a range of ways that people can be involved, from information being shared to leading projects and delivery. There are also a range of areas where this might happen. Sometimes, individuals might have high levels of involvement in their own care, or at a ward level, but be impacted by decisions from the organisation or trust where there is little involvement.
-
Co-production is critical to ensuring that we are making the right change. It’s a way of valuing people and families, responding to challenge and improving patient experience.
Our experience
Our team have significant experience of working with teams and trusts to review and develop their coproduction and lived experience leadership.
Their learning and experience has been in health and social care as well as within the voluntary sector. We specialise in supporting the development and inclusion of autistic people but have also worked to support inclusion of people with mental health needs, people with learning disabilities, diversity in inclusion, antiracist practice, involvement in cancer services and support to peer workers.
We work with teams and NHS trusts, to design and establish processes to ensure that co-production is a meaningful and sustainable part of their decision making
How we can help
Our work
NHS England
Culture of Care programme
Lived experience involvement is a core principle of NHS England’s Culture of Care programme. Our team of Lived Experience Advisors work with the inpatient services on the programme, not only utilising their own experience to inform change but to ensure that patients voices are heard and that their experiences are valued and used to improve care provided.
A key factor in the success of the programme is supporting the development of procedures that ensure that the co-production of services continues past our involvement and becomes a fundamental part of the decision-making processes.
Co-production evaluation tool
We have developed this tool, inspired by Arnstein’s Ladder of Involvement, to support teams to think about where coproduction and lived experience leadership is thriving, and which areas more attention and power sharing is needed.
Deepening the work
For teams who have a good understanding and are deepening their work, looking to go from good to great, or to embed lived experience leadership, these ‘pies’ provide more prompts to support them to develop their work. We can work with you to improve your practice.
