‘Am I gonna regret this?’: The experiences of diagnostic disclosure in autistic adults

£0.00

Au-Yeung, Freeth and Thompson, 2025

This study explores how autistic adults experience telling others about their diagnosis after being diagnosed in adulthood. Participants shared that they disclosed to seek support, be authentic, and help others, but often faced disbelief and negative reactions, making them cautious about future disclosures. Despite this, some had positive experiences where they felt accepted and supported, highlighting the need for post-diagnosis support to include guidance on disclosure.
