Amy Pearson and Kieran Rose (2023)

Through the use of an intersectional lens, the authors of this book provide up-to-date evidence on masking. Exploring the connection between masking and poorer outcomes for Autistic people leading to higher levels of suicide, exhaustion and burnout. The authors detail that whilst traditional thinking views masking as a way to blend in with Neurotypical people, emerging research indicates that masking can form as part of a response to stigma and from traumatic experiences. The authors enable the reader to develop core knowledge around masking and good practice in health and education settings.
